If you do not have suitable insurance coverage available to you through a spouse or employer, Heritage Companies can help. The Affordable Care Act’s goal for full coverage and the individual mandate penalizes some people who do not have qualifying insurance coverage in place by certain deadlines. As an independent insurance broker, Heritage Companies can help you choose from a variety of different individual plan types and coverage levels, all designed to meet your specific needs and budget requirements.

We can advise you about a variety of money-saving options available to you that you may not have considered. We can also help you develop strategies or acquire gap coverage between jobs or eligibility periods to maintain insurability.

Let our insurance experts help you choose the best policy options for your health, your budget and your needs. Contact Heritage Companies today.

Tips when shopping for individual health insurance coverage:

  • Shop and compare carefully. Policies differ widely in coverage and cost. Ask a Heritage Companies representative to help you compare the features and coverage of different policies and insurance companies.
  • Three questions you need to answer: 1) What does it cover? All policies sold must cover 10 “essential health benefits” but how that is done can vary widely. 2) How much will it cost? The cost of insurance is made up of two components, premium and out-of-pocket expenses. Make sure understand those factors in each policy you consider. 3) What doctors and hospitals are covered?
  • Read and understand the policy. Make sure it provides the kind of coverage that’s right for you. You don’t want unpleasant surprises when you’re sick or in the hospital. How are claims processed? Do you need pre-approval for certain services? Are you required to go through a primary care physician for referrals? Heritage Companies personal service insures no unpleasant surprises.
  • Ask if there is a “free look” clause. Many companies give you at least 10 days to look over your policy after you receive it. If you decide it is not for you, you can return it and have your premium refunded.
